Red Rock Overlook Hike in Pictures

I know I haven't written in nearly a week, and for that I am truly sorry.  I have tons and tons of ideas floating around in my head, many of which are in various stages of my writing process and sitting in Blogger waiting for me to get back at it.  I am also working on a guest post that will be showing up pretty soon...

But enough with the excuses!  I thought I would share with you, in pictures, why I have gotten little to no writing done today.  It was just too beautiful outside to be sitting inside with my laptop in front of me!  Hubby and I took the Crazies to Red Rock Overlook, a nearby park, for an afternoon hike and geocaching adventure.

Princess, styling & profiling in her very
"fashionable" hiking gear... she yelled "GEOCACHING"
just before I snapped this.  :)

And they're off!

Birdie is raving that the Potomac is so "crystal clear it looks like glass!
People here aren't as destructive as I thought, Mom!"

Birdie decided to plant a tree on our hike today!
We are going to log it's coordinates
and make it a "nature cache".  Pretty cool, huh?

Princess and Hubby, heading up the hill
to meet Birdie and me.
Princess & Birdie coming to the conclusion that this hill wouldn't be fun to walk down.
They assured us that "the view is just fine from here!"

The Potomac as seen from Red Rock Overlook, looking toward Maryland
Shortly after this wonderful view of the Potomac, we also got a view of Princess's moon, as she learned the fine art of peeing in the woods.  LOL!  Not exactly the nature I was hoping to see, but it was better than the alternative!

We found this little guy right next to our
second geocache location.  What a great find!

Birdie declared this clump of moss
"nature's blueprint for a hedgehog".  Of course she did.

I can't say I regret choosing our outing over writing a blogpost-- my computer will still be here on a rainy day, but the opportunity to hike with the fam will not.  :)  Hope you enjoyed this beautiful weekend with your family, too.

  1. That place looks awesome! And it's only about an hour from where I live in Shepherdstown, WV. :)

You made the right choice this weekend. :)

    1. I had no idea you lived so close to me! We are just a ten minute drive from this place, and it was a great afternoon. :)

  2. What beautiful scenery! Looks like your crew had a great time. Perfect way to spend your weekend for sure. We, on the other hand, had our first dusting of snow on the weekend. Brrrr! Back to sunshine today thank goodness.
