Meet The Conductor

I am a very busy lady... um, better just stick to woman.  (Lady implies things that I decidedly am not.)  I am (obviously) the mother of twin girls on the autism spectrum.  I'm also an elementary school special education teachers assistant, because my life doesn't have enough drama on its own.  Can you hear the dripping sarcasm?!  I also have the pleasure of being married to a wonderful guy, who just happens to travel ALL THE DAMN TIME for work, leaving me to take care of the kids on my own Monday through Friday.  That is not bitterness you detect, it's exhaustion!  I swear, honey!  And to complicate my life further, I have a very needy, allergy-plagued bulldog that is nearly as ridiculous as my children tend to be.  Needless to say, I have a lot to talk about.  Even the simplest of events becomes an adventure in my little corner of the world!

Hence, the blog.

This blog started off as a way for me to hash out my thoughts and feelings about parenting my lovely, and somewhat challenging, little ladies.  It also seemed like a very convenient way to share with my family and friends afar what's going on in my neck of the woods.  The blog has become more than that, though.  I have discovered that this is a wonderful opportunity for me to spread awareness about autism!  Every person I can educate or interest in learning more about autism is one more person out there advocating for my daughters and others like them.  The mom in me can't resist the urge to try and make the world a more understanding place for my children.  I have to try!  So I will do this the only way I know how and tell my stories of being their mom.  It's a job I truly love (no matter how little sleep I get).

So hop aboard the Crazy Train-- I've saved you a seat!

I promise, it'll be a ride you won't forget.  :)

  1. just so love your blog - all the way from New Zealand. I have twin girls and even though they aren't on the autism spectrum they are 2 little nutters and keep me on my toes. As if that wasn't enough there is a big brother in there too. Love your blog and your sense of humor! You GO GIRL!

  2. Hello! What a great blog! I am also the mother of two girls on the autism spectrum. Lizzie is 15 and has Asperger's and Caroline is 13 and has autism. I wrote a book which was published in March by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, and I think you might like it. The title is Parenting Girls on the Autism Spectrum: Overcoming the Challenges and Celebrating the Gifts.
Here is the link to the book on Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/Parenting-Girls-Autism-Spectrum-Celebrating/dp/1849058938/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_t_4

Let me know what you think! Eileen
